BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Align, organize, and oversee the districtwide sport specific athletic program. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in the assigned sport. Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so they are successfully competitive and successful in life.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures including, but not limited to, all financial policies and procedures found in Kentucky Administrative Regulation 702 KAR 3:130 "Accounting Procedures for School Activity Funds" handbook (Redbook)
  • Follows Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) bylaws and rules
  • Promote sports in the school throughout the district and our community
  • Plan the assigned athletic program districtwide
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, self-control, and good sportsmanship
  • Work with other members of the school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall eduational development of student athletes
  • Work with the Paducah Tilghman Athletic Director and the Paducah Middle School administrator in charge of athletics to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements
  • Recruit and help hire high school assistant coaches, middle school coaches, and little league coaches (where applicable)
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program at the high school, middle school, and little league programs. Make changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the progam
  • Conduct yearly coaching clinics for high school assistant coaches, middle school coaches, and little league coaches where applicable
  • Provide sport specific guidance aligned to the high school program through collaboration with middle school and little league coaches which will include but not be limited to: expectations, scheduling, basic fundamentals, and offensie and defensive schemes/playbooks
  • Attend or assign designee to regularly attend middle school and little league practices and games
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulartions with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices
  • Coordinate players attending specialty and college skill camps
  • Coordinate offseason weights and conditioning
  • Collaborate with other varsity programs at the high school level to promote well rounded athletes
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conference with parents, students, administrators, and Director of Districtwide Operations. Organize and supervise practices
  • Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game
  • Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent
  • Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance
  • Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student-athletes
  • Ensure weight/training room is clean, sanitized, and organized
  • Ensure locker room is clean, sanitized and organized
  • Attend booster club meetings, work directly with the booster club president, and ensure the booster club complies with the all financial policies and procedures found in Kentucky Administrative Regulatio 702 KAR 3:13o "Accounting Procedures for School Activity Funds" handbook (Redbook)
  • Annually establish and meet performance goals
  • Annually establish and meet participation goals for districtwide athletic program
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the districtwide program
  • Evaluate coaches and provide feedbak on performance of middle school and little league coaches
  • Perform related duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

     KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Must have experience or a desire to work in a diverse school district
  • General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of Kentucky High School Athletics Association (KHSAA) rules
  • Fundamentals of various sports
  • Health and safety regulations
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

ABILITY TO:

  • Excedllent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate ability to insturct and supervise student-athletes
  • Assist coaches on one or more sports
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures

REPORTS TO:

  • Principal/Athletic Director and Director of Districtwide Operations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

      Any combination equivalent to: a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate, a minimum of 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university and one year of experience coaching in a school athletic program.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIRMENTS:

 

      Successful completion of ABLE test, a criminal records check, AIDS awareness training, current certification in first aid and CPR.
